Travel agent vs online booking

Travel agent

HOT: They schlep finding flights and hotels.
NOT: They bill you for the schlep!

HOT: They may have been to where you want to go so they can advise you.
NOT: Are they’re being truthful or getting comm for the punts?

HOT: They book cars, tours etc for you.
NOT: If you like spontaneity, too much pre-planning isn’t fun.

HOT: They have all the latest visa info.
NOT: Most places have their visa info online.

DIY online

HOT: You surf the Net for the best deals.
NOT: Agents get specials as they book in bulk, so you won’t always find a cheaper option.

HOT: It’s quick – click ‘n book!
NOT: You get sucked in looking at options that leave you confused.

HOT: You can be more flexible as you can change plans yourself.
NOT: If the pawpaw hits the fan, you won’t have help. Agents sort out cancelled flights and insurance.

HOT: You decide where to stay.
NOT: The place that looked so fab online might be a dump.
