• Switch off your lights, radio, PC, TV, AC, fans and DVD when you’re not using them. Leaving appliances on stand-by chows power.
• Change to power-saving CFL light bulbs.
• Unplug chargers when you’re done.
• When you boil water, use a kettle, not a stove. Only boil the amount of water you’re going to use.
• Keep the fridge door closed when you’re not taking something out. Don’t leave it open while you make yourself a sandwich or cup of tea. If you see your fridge is building up a layer of ice inside, defrost it so it works efficiently again.
• Try to get a heater that uses as little energy as possible and switch it off when you’re not in the room. A gas or oil heater is a good alternative. Try those beanbags you heat up in the microwave or a hot-water bottle.
• Taking a shower saves more hot water than taking a bath. Switch off the geyser late afternoon and on again in the morning.
